Origami – Oni (Monster / Monstru) (video)
On February 2nd (2nd day of the 2nd month of the year – in Japanese February is called “ni gatsu”, meaning “the second month”) the Japanese celebrate Setsubun, a holiday signifying the coming of spring.
Children make monster masks and origami cups. They go outside, wearing the masks and holding the cups in which they put some beans that they throw away, thus cleansing what has been bad in the previous year. When they do that, they say: “Oni wa soto, fuku wa uchi!”, meaning: “The monster is out, good fortune in”. The ritual is called mamemaki (bean throwing). There are several kinds of oni: ijwaru oni (mean monster), nakimushi oni (crying monster), okori oni (angry monster) or nikoniko oni (smiling monster). Today I’ll show you how to make an origami cup having the face of an oni (monster). It is beginner level, really easy to make, and I also made a video. |

Thanks. I don’t really like drawing, but I decided to venture and draw a face anyway.
Adorable! 🙂
Thank you.
